DESIGN CONCEPT
The design of the lobby, its associated canopy and porte cochere is themed upon the main theme of the development itself; ie “Water Ballet”. The primary focus of this is upon a series of 4, specially commissioned sculptural figures which apparently float above a reflective water pool. Each figure represents a movement or position taken from ballet dance itself. The pool below reflects the figures and as a result they shimmer or move as the water reflections dance across the adjacent surfaces.
In the design of the lobby we have extended the idea of reflection or water dancing by first extending the reflecting pool into the lobby itself. The lobby is double height with full height windows and doors all around . The proportions are grand but not over-powering. This is designed to be a residents’ lobby which is a personal or human scale space rather than classically intimidating or cold. The ceiling is finished in a sparkling wall covering finish
which also subtly shifts tone as one moves through the space or according ot the time of day.
The ceiling is dominated by a chandelier made up of 8 groups or drops of clear glass spheres totaling about 960 which give the impression of bubbles or water droplets sparkling in the light above. The lighting has been specially designed and made specifically for this project to details from the designers.
Facing you as you enter the lobby on the end wall is a specially commissioned sculpture based on the form of a tree with crystal decoration which will also sparkle in the light and shimmer a little as the glass moves in the air currents.
Passing the reception counter one turns left into a more intimate lounge area furnished with individual custom designed and made pieces of furniture. Through here are the main doors leading to landscaped gardens which in turn lead to the residents’ building entrances and facilities.
